The Recruitment and Conscription of Child Soldiers by US-Supported Misurata Militias

Child recruitment by GNA and Turkey affiliated militias and mercenaries is widespread; however, most of the documented cases have come from Misurata (Misrata); the area has been receiving US military support since 2011. The typical strategy for recruitment involves targeting minors in orphanages and offering them 1000 Libyan dinars (200 dollars) weekly. Most recruits have joined the al-Mahjoub brigade; unlike Yemen, where child recruits go to training camps and are cultivators to be fighters; militia child conscripts receive little to no formal training and typically are used as combat fodder.

Tripoli: The killing of the child militia member (Matin Fathi Al-Ghariari), born in 2004, who belongs to the “Tripoli Revolutionaries” militia has been documented and released by local sources.

Tripoli: Local sources have documented the killing of the child militia member (Osama Faraj Al-Takroni) born in 2003 and from the city of Misrata and related to the militia crowd, as a result of the confrontations against the Libyan armed forces in the Ain Zara axis - Tripoli on Saturday evening, November 16, 2019

These war crimes have been systematically covered up and not reported in the wider press. Nevertheless, there is evidence that the Syrian mercenaries employed by Turkey have employed the same practices; therefore, Turkey cannot be counted upon to put a stop to child conscriptions.

Tripoli: The local sources documented the death of the child militia member (Qadri Muhammad al-Suwai’i), the famous # Al-Sukkarah, born in 2004, and a resident of the # Madinah-Old City in Tripoli, who belonged to the “Tripoli Revolutionaries” militia, in the militia crowd, as a result of surgery in a medical clinic in Tripoli on Monday morning, November 25th. -

This was after he was seriously injured as a result of confrontations against the Libyan armed forces in the Ain Zara axis - Tripoli which took place in October 2019.

This child was homeless and lived in an orphanage. He was seduced by money, as were many others.

Misurata, Libya: The local sources documented the killing of the child militia member, Muath Muhammad Ali Al-Talib Al-Misrati, a resident of the city of Misurata, who belonged to the militia of the “Mahjoub Brigade of the Military Council of Misurata” , supported by Turkey. He died as a result of being targeted by a sniper while dealing with a number of militia elements that tried to advance towards the city of Tarhona from the axis of Al-Zatarna.

These children typically receive 1000 Libyan dinars (200 dollars) a week, but are not considered particularly valuable assets and therefore easily discarded, and when they die, they are not missed because typically they have no families.

Tripoli: Local sources documented the injury of the child militia member (Tariq Muhammad Bin Rashid), the famous # Karambo or # Kaabour, born in 2003 and from the city of Misurata, which belongs to the militia of “Movement Battalion 7 - Al-Samoud Brigade” amongst Turkey-backed militias, during intermittent confrontations against the Libyan armed forces in the axis of Ain Zara - Tripoli Wednesday morning September 4, 2019.
Will GNA upgrade its strategy to the systematic recruitment employed by Yemen's Houthis? And what does it say about the cohesiveness and strength of their sources that they use these children who are not even well qualified or trained fighters?

ISIS returns to Libya to Fight With Tripoli Al-Wefaq militias - 06-18-2020

Adel Al-Hanashi Al-Ganzoury, an ISIS  member, fights with Al-Wefaq militias in the Tripoli hubs. He is a booby trap and mine expert who was responsible for the bombing of civilian homes. A group of Tajura youth in Tripoli were executed at the hands of the militias of the Albogra. The militias refused to withdraw the Turkey-backed mercenaries from the area.  Just how effective is US military assistance to local militias in guarding against the return of ISIS?
