Tarhuna Arson & Executions - 06-05 through 06-14-2020

What follows below is a documentation of war crimes perpetrated by Al-Sarraj led Government of National Accord ("GNA) and Turkey-backed Syrian mercenaries and militias against supports of Libyan National Army ("LNA") and their entire families in Tarhuna, following GNA's offensive. The offensive took place on June 5, 2020, ousting Khalifa Hafter-led forces fromt he city. GNA-affiliated fighters then proceeded to engage in a campaign of indiscriminant and violent retribution against the city residents, and anyone perceived as having been supportive to LNA.  Included in these scenes, with audio and video, are attacks by the GNA fighters inside Tarhuna General Hospital. A video shows the bodies of the LNA fighters killed in action. Their names and affiliation are written on the attached documents.  Following the killings, Al-Sarraj affiliated militias transferred the bodies from the morgue to other locations and buried them in mass graves. These photos have been submitted to the United Nations Support Mission in Libya and the Secretary-General of the United Nations as war crimes and gross violations of human rights.

Other incidents of retribution against real and perceived LNA supporters likewise accurred with the assistance of Turkey-funded foreign militias. This alliance engaged in operations which included burning the homes of the civilians with the objective of intimidating and displacing families. They also burned the city cemetery, and engaged in mass robberies, looting, and marauding, which thus far have not received international condemnations.

Additionally these mercenaries and militias bombed the retreating LNA troops, and attacked the civilian cars of families fleeing Tarhuna in the direction of Eastern Syria. As a result, entire families were killed.

The militias likewise engaged in gross violations of labor laws by keeping Egyptian workers in slave-like conditions and engaging in physical and mental abuse against them in violation of all relevant civic norms and international laws.
